How much does bra size change during pregnancy?

Most people go up 1-2 cup sizes and 1-2 band sizes during pregnancy, with the biggest changes happening in the first trimester and the third trimester. Nursing adds another layer — you'll need extra room for milk supply fluctuation, easy access, and support during letdown.

New to this? What you actually need at each stage

First trimester: your regular bra may still fit but will feel tight — a soft bralette or sleep bra with stretch is your best friend right now. Second trimester: invest in a proper maternity bra with adjustable straps and multiple hook positions. Third trimester: go up another size and prioritize comfort over structure. Nursing: get at least 2-3 nursing bras with easy one-hand clips.

When should I buy nursing bras?
Buy 1-2 nursing bras in your third trimester but don't stock up — your size will change again once your milk comes in (usually 3-5 days postpartum). Wait until about 6-8 weeks after birth when your supply regulates before buying a full set.
Do I need underwire during pregnancy?
Most experts recommend avoiding underwire during pregnancy and nursing because it can restrict lymphatic drainage and potentially contribute to blocked ducts. Soft, structured wireless bras or bralettes with good support are the better choice.
Will my size go back to normal after pregnancy?
Possibly, but not necessarily the same as before. Band size usually returns close to pre-pregnancy. Cup size may stay larger, smaller, or the same depending on your body. Wait until 3-6 months after you stop nursing before investing in a full new bra wardrobe.
